 Updated 20 March 2005:

Well, our group here just realized that today was the 2nd anniversary of the Iraq War.  We got this message from the US Embassy in Cairo:

The Embassy has been informed that a demonstration will take place today, Sunday, March 20, at the Omar Makram Mosque, Tahrir Square area.  Subject of the demonstration is the current fighting in Iraq.  Security measures put in place by local authorities may cause serious traffic disruptions. All recipients of this message are cautioned to avoid the area of the demonstration until late afternoon today.

For further information, U.S. citizens may call the Embassy's American Citizen Services Unit on 797-2301 during business hours, Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  For emergencies after business hours and on weekends, U.S. citizens can contact the Embassy Duty Officer via the Embassy switchboard on 797-3300.  The Embassy is located at 5 Latin America Street, Garden City, Cairo.  General information about Egypt is available at the Embassy's website www.usembassy.egnet.net <http://www.usembassy.egnet.net>.  The most recent State Department public announcement on North Africa and the Middle East has additional security information.  It can be found at www.travel.state.gov <http://www.travel.state.gov>.

Coincidently we happened to be, uh, right there at the exact time because we were visiting the American University in Cairo.  Fortunately, nothing too crazy happened and we got out safe.

Going to Sharm tomorrow to climb Mt. Sinai go ATV-ing in the desert sand dunes, and parasailing on the Red Sea!!!!!  Anyways, more pictures later (don't have my USB cable w/ me).  See you all later!

Updated 18 March 2005:

I've been in Cairo for the past three days.  We've done so much so far and Egypt is VERY different.  I've seen the pyramids, gone felluca sailing at sunset, visited mosques, seen the Sphinx, belly dancers on the Pharoah's boat for dinner, etc!!  And we still have a ton more things to do.  I've never been so happy in my life after seeing the Pyramids up close and personal... they are HUUUUUGE!

Anyways, I'm at an internet cafe right paying 10 Egyptian pounds an hour (it's only about $2 American dollars), so I can only put a few teaser pics up.  Hope everyone's enjoying their break and enjoy these pictures!

Kellogg Conference with ABSA

February 24-28, 2005

Chicago, IL

Last, last weekend ABSA (Asian Business Student Association) traveled to Chicago for our annual Asian conference.  This year it was at Kellogg School of Management where they held their 2nd Annual Asian Business Conference.  This trip was very, very, VERY fun.  I'd say it was the 2nd best business trip I've ever been on... the best being our infamous 2003 Harvard trip in Boston (click for pictures) where we didn't have to pay for flights, hotel rooms, or meals.  Anyways, I didn't feel like taking cabs everywhere, so I decided to rent a car for the 1st time!!!!  Here's my baby... a 2004 Chevy Cavalier.  It was a piece of sh*t and I drove it like it was a tank.  It only cost me $10/day!  What a deal!

Friday night, Amber, Mun, Pui Yee & I went to eat at this nasty noodle place at The Glen (Easton-type place in Glenview).  Garland then took all of us downtown for a late dinner at Grand Lux Cafe.  Everyone's food was good, but I can't say the same for Mun/Pui Yee's "chicken pot pie" and "clam chowder".  They ended up giving us free strawberry cheesecake, which was unbelievably good.  After the meal, Garland morphed into Bum Garland and rummaged through an alley in search for beer.  After that incident, he goes back to the hotel where he didn't want to be disturbed... "No Moleste!"

The conference itself started bright & early Saturday morning.  Topics included: Asia's low income consumers, Asian entertainment and media, & Asia as a high quality provider.  China & India were focal points, but they mentioned other great Asian countries like Vietnam .  There were mostly women on the trip, so each guy had 3 or 4 women to "take care of".  DOMs (dirty old men) were running rampant and hunting for wives.  One of them tried to use ME as an inroad to the girls.  We even recognized a DOM from last year's Michigan conference.  After much pleading from our girls, I did a little "man defense" (aka Cock Blocking).  What was interesting this year was the introduction of the DOW (dirty old woman).  Too bad nobody helped me!!! (*scratching eyebrow w/ pinky*)

Even the President of Pokemon was there!  At the end of the conference, there was a networking cocktail party (Translation: free wine & beer).  Northwestern is located along the coast of Lake Michigan, so we took this picture (5th one) on the beach with downtown in the background.

After Kuk's English tea time at T.G.I. Fridays, we headed off to a club called Vision.  This was no regular club... it was a MEGA-club!... one of the largest in Chicago.  Five different clubs in one... one club itself had 3 different levels.  Let's just say after a several rounds of drinks ($10/each!!#!*&#), I found it easy to get lost in there.  I guess it did help that we rolled 16 deep.

Garland somehow hurts his ankle while busting-a-move.  One of my favorite pictures is the 3rd one:  The Return of the Cock Belt.  Ever since that first trip to Chicago with Angelo (click for pictures), that Cock Belt has given me much pleasure with its mystical powers.  I've gone to Chicago before without the Belt, but it's just not as fun.  The 4th one is me and my estitician sister, Huong.

We managed to get back to our hotel in Glenview that night after Orian's Subway thing & Kuk turning the wrong way on a one-way street in the middle of downtown.  I dropped the girls off at the airport the next morning after 3 hours of sleep (thanks Orian & Garland for the surround sound snoring) and later that day Bernie, Chi Hai & I ate dinner at Joy Yee's... mmmmMMMM!

IAA Formal

March 4, 2005

Columbus, OH

I was convinced to go to the IAA (Indian-American Association) Formal last minute.  It was held this year at the River Club downtown.  I don't think I've ever hanged around so many Indians in my life!  Crazy Indians... people were even hanging off the chandeliers!

The 3rd one is Garland imitating John Legend (you know: "We're just ordinary people.... we don't know which way to go... which way to goooOOOooOOOoooo") on the piano.

Last Day at Scotts

For the past eight months, I’ve been working as a co-op in the Purchasing department and going to school full-time.  Needless to say, it was stressful doing both at the same time.  Even though I really enjoyed working there, I decided it was best to finished up school so that I could graduate in December.  Plus, I need to enjoy my last year in college, right?!

Yesterday was my last day in the office.  This was really the first job where I felt connected to my co-workers.  Our weekly staff meetings sometimes dragged on and on.  But there were times when we would just laugh at the stupidest things.  Those of you who’ve been in an office environment can concur.

Last night, I decided to take a mini tour of the building.  I had flashbacks of all the meetings, conference calls, lunches, off-sites, golf outings, and especially all the people I’ve met.  As I was walking out, I took one last look at the office, smiled, and drove back home to Columbus…

I know you guys would rather see pictures of the females in the Marketing department, but that will be for another day…
